Thank you for everything

An Open Letter to My Dogs
Alysa J Martin

If you own a dog, then you understand how amazing dogs are. They are so loving and caring, and completely unselfish.

In order to really explain how my dogs have impacted my life, I decided to write a letter.

Dear Naci, Nikki and Nestle (and my doggie looking down from heaven, Nakita),

Thank you for filling a void in my heart I never knew existed. Before I owned a dog I never knew how much I could ever love a dog. Once I got my first dog, I had suffered a bite to the face requiring 12 stitches and missing my eye by a centimeter. I know that it wasn't his fault, and he didn't mean to hurt me, but I was young and scared. Thank you for teaching me to not be afraid. If it wasn't for Naci I'm not sure I would have ever loved another dog again but, she changed my mind. I loved Naci so much, and I never knew how much I could love another dog. Yet every single one of you gave me another reason to love you. Thank you for teaching me how to love unconditionally.

Thank you, for helping me through some hard times. Like when you always would kiss my face when I cry, or let me complain to you without ever saying anything back. Just always listening. (Even if you can't talk back or understand anything I am saying). Thanks for always cuddling and hugging me, and just being there. Now, I understand why a dog is called a (wo)man's best friend, because thats exactly what all of you are.

Thank you for your hilarious personalities and always having a way to bring me joy. Each of you are unique and nothing makes me happier than seeing you each be yourselves. Some who may not love dogs like myself may not realize what I mean here... but you are each kind of like your own little person. I can't wait to see how many other amazing dogs I will meet throughout my lifetime, but I promise to never ever forget you or your little quirks.

Thank you for being a part of the family. I know you aren't even the same species as I am but I couldn't imagine growing up without you all as a part of my "pack." You have taught me life lessons, responsibility, love, happiness and so much more. Being an only child, it made me really bond with you all, and you were more like a sibling to me than a pet. Thank you for giving me a "sibling" I never had.

I know when I read this letter to you all you will have absolutely no idea what I am saying to you, but I know that you all know in your own way how I feel about you. Just know I am thankful for all you have given me. I can never repay you for your gentleness, protection and unrestricted, unselfish love.

Sincerely,

The leader of your little doggie pack

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
