A Letter To My College Roommate

What to expect when expecting the college-roommate experience

10

Dear College Roommate,

Hey. So, we're going to be living together for the next few months. This is definitely going to be a learning experience for the both of us. We are living with a new person and learning to coexist with each other's quirks and habits, as well.

I want to say that it won't be easy. But we can make it work - I know we can. We don't have to be best friends and spend every waking moment together. We just have to live together.

This doesn't mean that we have to have the same friends or be in the same classes. That's so unlikely. Odds are, we probably aren't even in the same major. If we are, that's great. If not, we can learn from one another.

All I ask from you is all you will probably ask of me: respect. I don't want to dread going back to my room and seeing you. I want to be able to come back and tell you about my day and for you to do the same. If there are any issues with living with me, I want you to feel comfortable enough to tell me, and not let it escalate into a bigger issue. I don't want to involve anyone who doesn't need to know about it.

And lastly, I don't want you to hate me. I want to be someone that you like and want to live with. I don't want to make you uncomfortable, I don't want you to go around telling your friends that you have an awful roommate. I want you to enjoy college, and I want you to enjoy your living situation.

Sincerely,
Your College Roommate

5 Untold Struggles Of The Short Friend

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
