Dear Best Friends Who Double As Sisters,
I cannot thank you enough for being my rocks here in this little crazy town that gets the best of us most of the time.
Coming from home with not many of my best friends attending the same school, I was a little scared of the transition into sorority life and having to find a whole new squad. Don’t get me wrong, I am pretty good at making friends and being very personable, but it was still scary.
Going through recruitment, you try to find the house you think you would fit into best, not knowing at all what your pledge class will be like, but trying to “trust the system” like everyone is telling you to. I can say I am so beyond happy that I did just that.
Running home on bid day, to you all, was an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. Reality set in after that day, and I realized I had to get involved and make some friends. It was not just going to magically happen.
The crazy part about that day was that I didn’t even know most of you for even the first semester of school and now some of you girls are my best friends.
Every girl needs a solid group of friends and I am so proud I get to call every one of my best friends my sisters, too.
Coming from a family of mostly boys, and growing up with two brothers, I never quite got to experience the whole “sister” thing and that is why I looked forward to being in a sorority so much. To finally have sisters who would always have my back, support me in everything I pursued, be there when I needed someone to vent to, and cuddle with me when all I wanted to do was cry, was such an amazing feeling.
The feeling that each of my best friends gives me is so unique and I cherish it more than words can describe. There have been some times since Freshman year when all I wanted to do was cry, go home, and cuddle and the fact that you all would do that for me is what I love most about you.
Every single one of you is so willing to drop everything to help each other and I am so lucky to be able to experience something like that in my life.
Coming from such a large group of tight-knit friends from home to coming here and having to find a new group of girlfriends, I can honestly say I have found best friends who will be there for me for life.
I want to thank Delta Gamma too for allowing me the opportunity to meet and get to know you all. Without this sorority and Washington State University, I would not know nearly any of you, and that is a scary thought to think. I can’t imagine my life without you all.
I get a smile on my face whenever I think of all the memories we have had together. From the many nights out, to the not so many nights in, to Sunday mornings, to date dashes, to day-long road trips, to living in, and to being reckless young adults before we have to go out into the real world, thank you for being there for every memory and every stop along the way.
I cannot wait to own our own house, spend two more short years in Pullman, finally be able to go the bars next year, and road trip here to cause a ruckus like we are freshmen again every year after we graduate.
I know no matter how old I get; you all will keep me young.
I love you all to the moon and back!
Mel
