A Letter To My Busy Mind -

I want to tell you to breathe, to slow down, give yourself a break, but I know you can't stand that advice.

You hate feeling unproductive, you hate wasting time, you hate feeling like you aren't learning something new, doing something new, getting something done, or growing in some way, and I know you're frustrated. I know you get frustrated when there aren't enough hours in the day, and when you want to prioritize everything but have to let something go.

I understand it all, but I can't sleep. You have to give me at least a few hours, a few hours of quiet time. But you keep planning. You keep worrying. You keep visualizing. You keep reminiscing. I try to help you, I've bought you 2 separate planners, a diary, a notebook for ideas, and we spend so many hours of the day thinking.. so seriously, you have to chill. Devising 9 backup plans for the next 5 years is so unnecessary, along with replaying the last 7 conversations you had word by word just to make sure you didn't miss anything important. You're trying to remember everything from what happened 6 years ago to what's going to happen in the next 6 days, and how to live each day better than the last, and I know you're constantly running in circles, you need to take time to stretch and rehydrate before another lap.

Don't get me wrong, I love you. I love that you're so driven, so intentional, and so eager. I love that you refuse to be anything but successful, that you want to make things right with everyone, that you don't want to accept anything less than perfect, but not everything will be that way. Things are going to go wrong, and you won't always be able to fix it right away. Things are going to hurt, and you can take the time to feel the hurt. People are going to let you down, and you don't have to always find the reason why.

You're exhausted. We're exhausted. Take a break, a real break, where you aren't planning, you aren't remembering, you aren't learning, you aren't doing anything that you consider productive, and instead giving yourself honest rest, so you can get back to being busy stronger than ever.

Thank you for the success, thank you for picking me up when I fail, thank you for bettering me, but please don't burn yourself out.

Sincerely,

The Girl Looking Forward To A Good Night's Sleep

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
