A Letter To My Broken Self

Nothing will be perfect, but you are strong enough. I promise.

A Letter To My Broken Self

To my broken self,

As of right now, everything seems hopeless, broken, and worst of all, lonely. You feel like no one can take this awful feeling in your gut and turn it into a sense of laughter. During the moments when your head is screaming, stomach is churning, and you can’t breathe due to your heart beating faster than you could ever imagine, you’re about to crawl into bed and call it a day. While you make this decision, your head begins to scream and reminds about all of the negative things in your life. Your grades, drama, mistakes you have made, etc. At this moment, you feel like the best thing you can do is not wake up, but I want you to remember that:

You are not alone.

and

It will get better.

I know right now, it doesn't feel like that will ever happen. You feel like the worst will just keep happening to you like a domino effect. While you think of these continuous depressing moments, you ask yourself, “why me?” and to that question, God replies, “because you’re stronger than the others.” You are stronger than the people who you believe have the best lives. These obstacles are thrown in your way because God knows it is only a bump in the road for your road to success.

Of course, one letter cannot fix the problem, but it sure can remind you of who you are, what your values are, and what you believe you have been put on this earth to do. With all of these reminders, it can be summed up with three words, “love yourself first.”

You are not broken, you are only in pain. Pain can be cured, and it will be. I am not writing this letter to remind you to smile and say that everything is perfect because it isn't and it never will be. With that said, though, the power of self-love is perfect. Do not fall into the trap just so you can get out of the issue. Stick your ground because you are worth the fight, the love, and the beauty of life.

Think of yourself as lucky that you have been chosen to defeat all of these obstacles. The only reason you keep getting thrown them is because people know you can beat them. You can do anything you put your mind to and that is a guarantee. Put up your fight for what you believe in because the only way to be healed is through the power of yourself.

You are worth it and you will get through it. I promise.

Love,

Your true self

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
