An Open Letter To My Big Sisters While I Am At College

Now, it's my turn.

An Open Letter To My Big Sisters While I Am At College

As the little sister of the family, I have been given the privilege to watch you two grow into the amazing women you are today. Big Sister, you have taught me that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to and to never stop fighting for what I want. You will always be my role model. I have been so proud to call you my oldest sister for as long as I remember. Afterall, you were my favorite sister when we were growing up. To my middle sister, you have taught me that life is too short and I should say yes to every adventure that comes my way. You throw caution to the wind and embrace life as it hits you. You are truly inspiring. Thanks to you both I know that I have the strength to overcome any obstacle with you both by my side.

As I sat all alone in my quiet dorm room the first week of school, all I could think was the emptiness I now felt. There were no more late night movies, midnight runs to WAWA, trips to visit you at your homes, or late night conversations while driving around aimlessly in the car. The first week all I wanted was to see you all. After the many tears, phone calls, text messages, advice, and encouraging words from you two I knew everything was going to be alright. For the first time since I left for college, I felt a motivation to make you both proud. I began joining clubs, and running for offices, and going to sporting events. Finally, I stopped thinking about missing you and instead looked forward to when I would come home to visit. You two helped me through my first month of college.

As your baby sister, I know all you want is the best for me, even if that was not so obvious growing up. Being the baby sister did come with its downfalls, like blindly doing any task you told me to or being the last one to leave home, but I would not trade being your baby sister for the world. You both reach all the milestones before I do and that luckily gives me the luxury of partaking in your wisdom. You two have followed different, but equally successful paths and I aspire to be even half as successful.

I know I may not always show you two as much appreciation as you deserve, but know I need you. My life would be dull without our sister group message and the videos we keep of each other for future blackmail. You two are my best friends and I know I can always count on you. I love you both.

Love,

Your Little Sister

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
