A Letter To My Best Friend Who Switched Universities

It's just not the same without you.

A Letter To My Best Friend Who Switched Universities

College is amazing. You're in a new environment with many amazing opportunities. You get to meet so many new people and create long lasting relationships. However, even though you're meeting all these new people, you never steer away from your best friend.

Oh, your best friend. You smile just thinking about them. You've literally done everything together. Late night talks, bike rides, ice cream on a hot day, impromptu Slurpee trips, and so much more. You honestly don't know what you would do without them. They've got your back and you have theirs. You could never imagine going a day without seeing your best friend.

...And then it happened.

As we get further into our education, we start to take different paths. You want to go to a different university, but I want to stay at SVSU. I'm really happy that you want to transfer to Michigan State University, but are you sure? Is that really what you want to do? It's so far away.

Besides, who will I talk to in between classes? Who will I have lunch with? Who will I go on spontaneous road trips with? Who will I hang out under the bridge with? Who will listen to all my guy problems? Who will I laugh with about the most random things?

It's not like you're planning on staying at home and driving to MSU every day. No, you have to live there because of your scholarship. I'm extremely proud of you, but I'm going to miss you so much.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that you're following your dreams, but it's still hard. We used to spend so much time together and now it feels like I lost my other half. I know we can Snapchat still, but it's just not the same. I can't meet up with you at midnight when I need to talk or randomly drop by your house after work. Now all we can do is video chat or talk on the phone.

However, we definitely can make it work. I'll plan to come see you on the weekends and we'll hang out when you come back home. We'll continue to talk almost every day and keep each other updated on everything that's going on in life. You'll keep updating me on your relationship troubles and I'll continue to tell you mine. We'll still have our deep late night talks and give each other advice.

Even though you're 86 miles away, you will still and always be my best friend. I definitely miss being able to see you every day, but it just makes our hangouts so much more special. Being able to finally see you is like getting a puppy for your birthday - full of excitement! Distance definitely hasn't changed us either. We may not talk as much, but our friendship is still as strong as ever. I'm so proud of everything you've accomplished and I can't wait to watch you excel as you continue your journey at MSU!

You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
