An Open Letter To My College Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

There are no words to describe how much you have changed my life this past year. Coming to college, I didn't have any friends by my side because I didn't know anyone going to the same school as me. You and I met over the summer on the "Quad" group chat for our school. You talked about how you never toured the school and wanted pictures, so I sent you some from around campus. That, my friend, is what started this friendship.

I remember the first day we met; we went to that fair for the incoming freshman and played those indoor carnival games they had. After that, we went back to your dorm and hung out with your roommate but then I left to go back to my apartment. We started hanging out more, and it was like we instantly became best friends. We both had boyfriends at the beginning of the fall, but at the end of the spring semester, we were both single. We helped each other with our break ups and cried on each other's shoulders. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together and even had sleepovers.

Then we started hanging out with my roommate more, and we became the best friend trio. We did everything together, went on road trips, went shopping, went out to eat, and had many many many sleepovers. We even watched the entire season of "Fuller House" in about a day. I never had this much fun with my high school best friends, probably because I didn't live with them or see them 24/7 from being away at college.

Out of all of the fun stuff that we have done together, I have got to say that just hanging out in my apartment playing Xbox or watching movies until three in the morning has got to be my favorite. I can't wait for those kinds of nights again this year. I am so glad that we met on that Quad app because if it wasn't for that, we might have never crossed paths because we didn't have any classes together this entire year, probably because we have two completely different majors.

I am so happy that you came into my life. Through all the cries, laughs, and smiles we have had, you have made my life so much brighter. Friendships like ours are very rare and hard to find in this world nowadays. I am sure God was watching over us during the hard times in our life and decided that we needed each other and brought us together to become best friends; we are pretty much sisters that's how close we are. You have always been there when nothing seemed to be going right, and you were and are there during the highest points in my life as well. Just know that I obviously love you enough to write this long article about you.

I love you, Britt. Thanks for being my best friend.

-Rach

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
