A Letter To My Best Friend Going To A Different College

Dear Best Friend,

I am so happy that you became a part of my life. I can honestly say that I don't know where I would be without you. You have been the lighthouse among the dark and vast ocean that always led me back home. When I was struggling with the obstacles life threw at me, I could rely on you to be there to lift my spirits. You have been there for me through the heartache, the laughter, the tears, and the happiness.

Our memories from over the years will always be cherished. I am going to miss binge-watching and crying over "Grey's Anatomy," buying Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and Spunky Dunkers, obsessing over cats and dogs, having heart-to-hearts, late night calls, singing and dancing to music, going broke after a day at the mall, attending prom, making arts and crafts, watching movies and going on dinner dates, hanging at the beach, adventuring into the city, squeezing hands at tattoo shops, giving advice, and laughing so hard that we got a better ab workout than we ever could have at any gym. I will always value the time we had together and I know the memories will never fade.

Although I am going to miss you dearly, I am extremely proud of you and all of your accomplishments. You're selfless, beautiful, caring, intelligent, and radiant. You persevere even when it would be easier for you to give up. You're so brave and strong. You go out of your way to make others happy. Make sure that you are happy, too. I know that your mother, along with your whole family, is proud of you. I know I am.

Lastly, as we depart on our separate journeys in different states, I want to thank you for being my best friend. You were always there for me when I needed you. You loved me unconditionally. I wish you happiness, success, and love in the future. I know this is not goodbye. I will see you soon.

"If there ever comes a day where we can't be together, keep me in your heart. I'll stay there forever." - Winnie the Pooh

With love,

Your Best Friend

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
