A Letter To My Best Friend

Because you deserve to be reminded why you are the best.

A Letter To My Best Friend
Kelsi Blue

Hey best friend,

I just want to start out by saying that we're two of the luckiest girls on earth to have each other.

When I met you, we were 6 years old and our biggest worry was sprinting to the slide after lunch in order to "reserve" it for our group of friends. Since then, we have been through everything together – every heartbreak, every accomplishment, every mistake, every trend (crocs and gauchos... ouch), every basketball game, every lunchroom table conversation, every bad day and every amazing day.

All I can hope and pray is that I have been half of the best friend you've been to me. See, when I tell people, "oh, yeah, she's my best friend!" it doesn't even give you the credit you deserve. After all that we have been through together, you have earned the title of "sister."

With that being said, you and I have always acted like sisters. We're so, maybe too, brutally honest with one another, and it's awesome. If you're being mean and insensitive, I'm the first to call you out on it. I know I can count on you to return the favor when I'm being a huge drama queen. We may fight and bicker, but at the end of the day, we can share a bag of M&M's and laugh about it.

I think one reason why our friendship has been so great and long-lasting is because we are complete opposites when it comes to personality. Yup, pretty much, completely different. I'm loud and outgoing, where you're more reserved. I'm super girly, and you laugh at my make-up obsession. You're fast and athletic, where as your walk speed is about the same as my full sprint speed. You watch "Hawaii Five-0," and I watch "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." I could go on all day about how different we are, but while we are so different, we're also the same.

We both love Jesus and try our best to live a Christ-like life every day. We both share the same morals and values. We both love our family and other friends so much, and we would both do anything for them. We both enjoy lazy nights with pizza and "The Bachelorette." I guess what I'm trying to say is you're everything I'm not, but everything I need in a best friend.

When we were younger, we would say that when we got older, we were going to build houses right beside each other and our kids were going to be best friends. I don't know if that will happen (I mean, I'm still down), but what I do know is that I will always be here for you and you will always have my back. We've faced obstacles and had fights, we've even lived four hours apart for a year, and nothing has ever changed. You're someone who feels like home to me. It's like, when we're together, everything is right in the world.

All of these reasons, and many more, make up why you're my go-to girl, my day one and my best friend. You're the Blair to my Serena, the P. Sawyer to my B. Davis, my sister in Christ and my partner in crime. No one else will ever jam out to Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers with me as hard as you do. Keep being awesome, and stay true to yourself always.

Oh, and I love you.

Love,

Your best friend

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
