Dear Best Friend,
Where do I even begin?
They say time doesn't matter in friendships. What matters is who came to your side and never left. Well in our case you have stuck by me for nearly fourteen years now, and for whatever reason you chose to still hang around. In these fourteen years we have learned more about one another than many married couples do. We have always jokingly said we are each others soul mates, and the older we get, the more truth I find in that statement.
You have saved my life in more ways than one. When we were younger you were my saving grace when it came to family vacations. Of course, you were always invited to mine, and I to yours. You, see we are pretty much family. Scratch that, you are my family, no questions asked. So much so that we have attended family diners together, and you are featured in family pictures that hang on the walls of my home.
As we got older, we have made more and more memories together. I'm not going to sugar coat anything. Not all of our memories contain belly-aching laughter and smiles so wide they make your cheeks hurt. There have been many nights that we have cried all night over things that we thought were "earth-shattering". There have been times that we just stayed the night together and played video games because we needed each others company. There have been days when we swore it was you and I against the world. And there have been moments where we get more than fed up with each other's crap, but eventually we get over it because more "earth-shattering" things happen. Who else would we want to tell first anyway? There have been nights that we go out with other friends, and find ourselves hanging out with only each other because our company is the best company, nights when we watch Harry Potter movies and simultaneously recited each scene word-for-word. Some of these nights have turned into mornings, and some of them we have passed out by nine o'clock on the couch.
The point is, these times, nights, days, moments, or whatever they may be are my favorite thing about life. Almost every story I tell includes you as a main character. I look forward to making new memories and to telling new stories, so many that it's impossible to remember them all.
Love,
Your person.
