A Letter To Mr. Burns, CEO

You gave me a voice so I'm going to use it.

Hi, hello, Mr. Burns.

EIC of Lake Erie College here and I would like some answers, as would most of the EIC's you have employed for you right now.

First I want to thank you for teaching me (through my amazing ME) how to use my voice to produce a change. I understand that the recent change in corporate Odyssey more than likely had to happen, being the finance major that I am, I get it. Business is business. But that isn't going to stop me from using the voice that you so cleverly gave me.

You see, when my ME, Sami, told our group of EIC's that she was leaving, the reactions were a mix of anger and tears. As the day progressed we turned to reminiscing on all the things we loved about our time together. We talked about how much of a friend and mentor she was to us. I can honestly say the community Sami provided us with is more than a team of EIC's. We care about each other and we share literally everything about our lives. We are family. Eventually we turned to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in an attempt to protest. We used our sources to make a change, much like we were taught through Odyssey.

I hope this lay off was for the best, I really do. I We would like some insight. What is going to happen to the small communities? Where is Odyssey going? Are you taking a pay cut as well? How about your CFO, what does he have to say about the situation? Can I have a video call with you to get some answers? Can you do another Reddit: ask me anything? I know these are tough questions, but they are certainly legit. As an employee, I would love to know if my future with your company is going to be cut short.

If you read this I hope you respond in any way. I would love assurance that this was for the best, I really want to understand.

Sincerely,

Every EIC, ME, and Creator employed by well, you.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
