A Letter To A Hate-Filled World

There is a way to help abolish the hate in the world.

To anyone who has the time to read,

There have been many occurrences in our world recently that have us all in either shock, in pain, or in fear. I was always told to keep my thoughts to myself if they would be considered too controversial, but in light of current events I feel the need to speak out against the hate in our world.

First of all, we have to ask ourselves "what is the real definition of hate"? I myself being an emotional pacifist can't really come to a self induced conclusion because I don't really hate anyone or anything. (Except for spiders. I REALLY hate spiders). But, we do need a ground basis of a definition, so let's examine what love is instead.

I am a Christian. I love the Lord. One thing I do because I love the Lord is I read and memorize what the Lord has set out for me to know in His word. In His word, one verse that stands out more than any other is 1 John 4:8, which reads "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love". Now, in all honesty, would be the point where I should drop the metaphorical microphone and walk away from my computer and have you all ponder on what that verse really means, but since this is my letter to you all, I will explain. The verse literally says that God is love. Not only did God invent love, but He IS love! The absence of God is HATE! Anything that is not filled with his holiness is filled with hate no matter how you look at it.

Another passage of scripture we can look at is 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, which says "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." Look at this passage. Now, look at our recent current events. Look at the bombings in our world. Take your time to remember the tragedies in Orlando, and in Dallas, and in France, and in England, and in New York, and anywhere hatred has stricken. Think of the many lives that have been lost due to the outbreak of hate. Think of the innocent lives of civilians that were taken due to carelessness. Think of all of the times people were picked off just because of the color of their skin. Think of all of the hate in the world... Then, look back at this verse. What is going on in our world today, is not even close to what God's design for love was meant to be.

The bottom line is that we live in a world that has stripped God from everything we do in fear of not having any freedom in our lives. We have chained ourselves up in sin because we are too afraid to humble ourselves to one greater than our own. We laugh at God because we assume that He is absent in trouble, and in tragedy, and in pain, and in misery, when in all actuality, we fear of replacing what we want for His will and His purpose. We turn our nose at His will because we are too afraid that His grace and His love won't be as satisfying compared to our sin and our hate. The bottom line is hate, yes, but in whom? Is it us? Is it them? The answer is yes; to both.

The majority of us have the right mindset in terms of the abolishment of hate. If you are reading this and you aren't a Christian, I pray that this article would motivate you to find what true love is. I know that God is present in this world, but we can't ever say that God is in control when WE as people who live in this world won't give God control. It's time to take a stand behind God and give these problems to the one who has a plan and good will for His creation. Sometimes the right way to deal with a problem is giving it to the one who can actually do something. If we present the Lord with a problem, and if we have faith that God will help us all, God will provide a way out. May God help us all in our time of need.

From,

Someone just as concerned as you are.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
