A Letter to my sister

You're only a freshmen for a moment

A Letter to my sister

To my little sister,

The time has finally come and you've completed your first week as a freshman in high school. I'm not writing this to tell you how proud I am of you, though I am proud. Nor am I writing this to annoy you. I'm writing this to tell you that I want you to spend these next four years of your life optimistic and prepared.

Enjoy the little moments now. Even though your constantly busy right now between your social life, school work, and sports, enjoy those moments. Enjoy walking with your friends in the hallways, the conversations you have with your teammates, and the Friday night football games.

I know first hand that while people say high school is the best four years of your life, they're not. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy them. At some point over the next four years you will feel defeated, on the edge of a mental or emotional breakdown. That doesn't mean you should give up. You have endless opportunities and chances in front you, everyday single day. It may seem far away now but you'll have to start deciding your future soon. And you've already completed the very first step.

You've finished your first week as a freshman and you now have a taste of what the next four years will be like for you. You know how tiring it can be but it's also rewarding. You'll look back on this time of your life, realizing just how easy it was. It may seem difficult in the moment but trust me, once you're out in the real world, life becomes a lot more challenging.

You may think you're all grown up by the end of high school, or even by the end of your freshmen year but don't grow up too fast. No matter how much you'll want to, it's not worth it. Don't waste away the last few years of childhood you have left. In four short years you'll be considered an adult. You'll feel lost and unsure of yourself. So cherish your last couple breaths of childhood, they don't last long.

No matter what and no matter how old we get, you'll always be my little sister and I'll always be looking out for. I know you'll be successful in life, whatever you choose to do with your future, you will succeed in it. I have total faith in you and believe in you.

I love you so much and I'm so proud of you already. Don't waste those moments, enjoy them.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
