An Open Letter To My First Love
Amanda Corp

If someone told me at the beginning of high school that I'd fall in love for the first time, I wouldn't have believed them. I never imagined I'd find someone like you so young. You truly made my high school years unforgettable and for that I thank you.

Thank you for allowing me to feel something so strong towards you. Until you came along, I had only ever loved my family members and close friends. Even then the love we shared wasn't comparable to that of others. I have never experienced a love like that before and I'm so thankful that I got to share those feelings with you.

Thank you for showing me that good guys still exist. I was going through a rough patch the few years before we met and you came into my life at the absolute perfect time. When we met, I was beginning to lose hope that people like you were still around. You showed me that the guys girls usually dreamed of existed in real life.

Thank you for teaching me so many new things. I learned so much from you during the time we were together. I not only learned things about myself but also about what I deserve and should look for in relationships. You taught me that I can't always be selfish and that it's okay to not always be in complete control at times. You taught me that others see things in me that I don't and that I'm my own worst critic. I realize now that I'd gained so much knowledge from being with you.

Thank you for loving me at my worst. You were by my side as I learned how to love someone else while I was still learning how to love myself. You were there through it all no matter what. Every time I'd get mad or upset and take my anger out on you, you'd deal with it and tell me that's what you were there to do. I know I wasn't an easy person to deal with at times. I'd get grouchy when I was hungry and be sassy 99 percent of the time, but you put up with me and loved me anyway.

Thank you for making me look at the world in a different way. You asked me questions no one ever had and made me sit there and think of a response instead of pushing it aside. You made me dig deeper than I ever had before for answers, and because of that my thoughts are more articulated and thorough. Because of you I'm able to see the world in a whole new light, a world I never imagined.

Thank you for loving me unconditionally. Thank you for always being there for me, even to this day. Thank you for giving me days where I could just vent about everything and anything and you'd sit there and listen and only speak when you had advice to give. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories and for allowing me to be a big part of your life. Thank you for being one of the best people who I've ever let into my life and for still making me feel like one of the most important people in yours.

Lastly, thank you for teaching me I was worth being loved and capable of being in love. Thank you for showing me that I was able to have something so simple and pure in my life. Thank you for caring for me and thank you for making me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. Thank you for making such an effort to understand every aspect of my very complex personality. Thank you for introducing me to so many new things, like music artists and television shows. Thank you for opening up to me and letting me in your life. Most importantly thank you for being you. You were truly the best friend I had ever had and I'll never forget you. I couldn't be happier or more appreciative to have a first love as great as you.

Love forever and always,

Me

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
