Letter to a Dreamer:

If your dreams don't scare you, they are not big enough

Letter to a Dreamer:
Dream Guide

“Never let it be said that to dream is a waste of one’s time, for dreams are our realities in waiting. In dreams we plant the seeds of our future.” -Unknown

We all aspire to be great. We all set goals that seem preposterous. We work our tails off climbing the stairs to attain success. We have mental breakdowns when we think we have reached our pinnacle. We build a door when the one we have been chasing shuts indefinitely. We cry tears of joy when our dreams are finally a reality. We are simply beings that strive to prove the skeptics wrong.

Never let anyone tarnish your dream.

The negativity that surrounds this community of dreamers is poisonous. The subconscious comments of awe, questions of ability, subtle jabs at the confidence that you have worked so hard to build up, only add to our determination. We take their words and we use them to fuel our drive.

For a dreamer, aspirations ignite a flame in our soul. The negativity makes the fire burn bigger and brighter. It is an itch that has to be scratched. A hunger that must be satisfied. Just the idea makes our stomach erupt with butterflies and makes us smile like we have a secret.

The thing about dreamers is everyone appreciates them after their success; never during the ominous and seemingly impossible road leading up to a GRAMMY, The Nobel Peace Prize, a published novel or a patented invention. Remember, the people that believe in you now, will be the people who believe in you when you are finally standing tall, wrapped in an invisible cloak stitched with the finest mistakes and achievements from your journey.

When we choose to be dreamers, we decide to defy gravity and push the limits of what society thinks we can or should do. If dreamers hid in their shadows, stayed behind closed doors and chose to refrain from taking risks we would not be where we are today. Walt Disney would not have befriended his pal Mickey Mouse, leaving the animation industry void of life. Bob Dylan would not have written his lyrics that has influenced today’s popular music culture. Our founding fathers would have never written the constitution, the foundation of this country. Your thoughts are but strokes of paint on a canvas that create a unique interpretation of a bigger picture.

As dreamers we risk a lot. We fight until our body aches. We practice until we are confident with our performance. We allow our passion to fill those around us. But most importantly is we inspire the next generation of dreamers.

We hope that after we have departed this life that we have made a difference in society. We hope that we have prepared the next generation to not fill our shoes but out grow our shoes. Dreamers detail our history.

Sincerely yours,

A Fellow Dreamer

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
