A Letter To Department Stores

Dear Department Stores,

I wish you could expand much more for women of different shapes and sizes.

I recently found out that I have an event that I will be attending very soon, and because I have worn a few of the dresses and outfits I have at home more than a few times, my mom and I decided that I needed to find a new outfit and one that was perfect Spring. The first place I had gone to check was my favorite store Torrid (a store for bigger, curvier girls) where I was able to find a beautiful white sleeveless peplum styled shirt with a flower pattern on it. The moment I saw it and tried it on I knew it was perfect for the event I would be attending. The only thing was that I needed to wear a dress, but if I were to pair the shirt with a nice white skirt, it could perfectly pass for a dress. The only thing was that I didn't have a white skirt so that was something that I was going to have to find.

I thought that finding a white skirt wasn't going to be a big deal, but little did I know it was going to be way tougher than I thought. That's not the full reason for why I am writing thing this, though. You see, as I went on to look through other stores I noticed that they have been bringing out more and more spring clothing which is something that they have been doing for more than a few weeks now. But when I walked over to the plus section in each of these stores, I noticed that there was a very minimal amount of new spring clothing. Not only was I a bit disturbed by that sight, I was also a bit irritated by the fact that so many of these stores have such a huge selection for thinner girls, but the plus size section takes up the smallest portion of the store.

So, my request to you is that you open up at least half of the women's sections or women's stores to the bigger girls. I request that you fully update different seasonal clothing at the same time that other sections are updated because it's not fair to see other girls running to changing rooms to try on new clothing while girls like me walk into the store and have to walk right back out because there is nothing on display for us to try on. It is infuriating because I feel restricted and it takes away any chances for me to wear new trends. I hope that one day my requests, as well as the requests from many other women, will be executed in the very near future.

Thank you,

Nicole Perez

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
