An Open Letter To My Best Friend

There is no one I rather live this crazy life with other than you, Darby.

An Open Letter To My Best Friend

Dear Darby,

We are exactly 758 miles away from each other currently. Crazy, right? You've been my friend for multiple years, and our friendship will only continue. I am writing this because I know you're going through a rough time in life, and just know I will always be there for you. Even though I am a couple states over, I miss you more every day. Weird how one day you and I are having the times of our lives at different frat parties, or missing Juicy J because something... came up, and the next we are FaceTiming wishing we were able to hang out. You and I will always make the best out of every situation, and I know this will make us grow closer.

We first met in high school, when I was only a sophomore. I was on junior varsity while you were on varsity. We didn't become friends instantly, only gradually. By the way, I always thought you were such a great dancer. We remained friends until the summer going into my senior year. That's when we became best friends.

When no one else was down to go to that 90s frat party, you knew I would be down. You took me to my first frat party. Pretty sure we both had the times of our lives that night. We continued hanging out consistently, and it truly felt like it was you and me against the world. We made funny vines, we invented, "Madison and Darby 2013", and we were the only girls I knew that could hang in COD zombies.

Years and years have gone by, and I continue to reminisce on the holidays where we would carve pumpkins and mine ended up looking like an apple tree instead of some dope mushroom, when I brought my cat, Kiki, to your family Easter celebration, and when we went to Newport for spring break. There is no one in this entire world I would rather call my best friend than you.

Looking back on all our adventures makes me tear up...just a tad. You've been there for literally EVERYTHING. From the bad times, to the good. We go from head banging to Excision, to crying over boys. That's okay though. There's isn't anyone I would rather share those moments with than you.

At night when I get ready to go out, all I can think about is having my best friend here with me. I wish you were doing this with me, but just know you and your family influenced me to be where I am today. Once I finish this year of college, you will be graduated. That is such an amazing accomplishment, and I can't wait for you to be there one day watching me walk. We have a whole life ahead of us, and I am glad we are in this together.

Madison and Darby 2013—forever. I love you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
