To my brother on his wedding day:
The big day is right around the corner and soon you will finally be married. I say "finally" not because it's been long awaited or because it's shocking that you would be married someday but because the two of you have been essentially a married couple for quite some time with the house, stable jobs, and the responsibilities of your little rugrats - I mean your dogs. You have always been an old soul with a good head on your shoulders and you clearly do not need any advice (especially from me), so I would like to just say thank you.
Thank you for always being there for me.
You have been not just my big brother, but you've also stepped in as a friend and even a father figure from time to time. You were my go-to whenever I was upset and never failed to be there to dry my tears and cheer me up, no matter how inconvenient it was for you.
Thank you for being a solid role model.
With you being the oldest and living in a small town - it is no surprise I had to live in your shadow growing up. Although it was quite annoying at times to always be recognized as your little sister, you did pave a nice path for me. As mentioned earlier, you always did have a good head on your shoulders and would always do the right thing (and still continue to do so) and so I thank you for setting that precedent for me.
Thank you for being my brother.
Okay, so you didn't have a choice with this one but I truly cannot imagine what life would be like without you as my brother (cue the sappiness). Well to be really honest, I could imagine life without the spontaneous wrestling "attacks" whenever I would walk into a room but besides that, I am forever grateful for you and your existence.
I am so excited for you as you embark on the next chapter in your life. I know it may not seem too different from how everything is now, but still - cherish the moment and everyday that follows. Oh and don't you dare fret; I will still be pestering you all the time, fight you on who really is the favorite, and will continue to be the obnoxious little sister that I am...who must have a claimed room in your home by the way - even if you were to move somewhere else down the line - I will have my own room so remember that. I do hope that you continue to be the kindhearted, dedicated, and hardworking young lad that you have been all these years. Do take the opportunity to put yourself first once in a while, but also continue to be the supportive and caring individual that you are. I wish you a lifetime of happiness and butterfingers (both the candy and the idiom).
Cheers!
