There Is No Place Like Home

An Open Letter To My Best Friends From Home

After being away from you guys since August and coming home this past week, I realized how lucky I am to have had such amazing people in my life throughout my youth. I was fortunate enough to meet most of you in middle school, and others in high school. However, I still feel that I have known all of you forever. Since we have grown up beside one another, you girls know me better than anyone else, you girls love me more than anyone else and you girls are there for me more than anyone else. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

Thank you for shaping me into the person that I am today.

I credit you with helping me find myself in high school. I truly believe I would not be the same person without you. My personality was influenced whether I was put in a situation where I had to be tough and stick up for you or I had to listen to you and give advice. I learned to be more open with people and to share my thoughts, feelings, and opinions in a no judgment zone. You guys shaped my mentality of: Who cares. I have important people in my life, I know who matters and I don't give a f*ck what anyone else has to say.

Thank you for memories.

I always have so many stories to tell people about you. I still can recall stories from the 6th and 7th grade and I cannot wait for the insane memories that are about to come for us. Some of them are absolutely ridiculous and others have been some of the best times of my life.

Thank you for giving me things to look forward to when I come home.

Although I am absolutely loving where I am in my life and the U, there is no place like home. I can barely wait for the crazy fun we will be having together during my next break and all of the dysfunction to come with it.

Thank you for supporting me.

Although we have had rough times just like any other groups of friends, there is a reason that we have been friends all of these years. Your support in any situation that I needed it was greatly appreciated and always powered me through.

Thank you for keeping the smile on my face.

No matter what, I know I can count on you to make my day better. Hearing that you are happy makes me happy. Even hearing a dumb typical thing that you did will make me laugh because that's how much I miss having you in my life every day.

Thank you for letting me into your families.

Its one of the best feelings knowing I have many parents and siblings I can go to and be accepted as one of their own.

Thank you for putting up with me and my ways.

I love that you guys can predict things I would do or say. You have my ways down pat.

Thank you for being absolute savages.

Its fun being surrounded by girls that are similar to me in so many ways but most importantly, we all like to have a good time. We always make the best of the situation at hand. Good v16es, always.

I am so thankful that we have each other at all times although we are miles away. The distance clearly hasn't damaged anything and I know it never will. It will only continue to make us closer and more appreciative of what we are lucky to have. I love you guys.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
