An Open Letter To My Older Sister

"A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost."

Dear Sister,

You are always there for me when I need you most. You loved me from the day I could talk and make conversations. You gave me boyfriend advice whenever I needed it. You had that maternal instinct whenever mom was at work. Most importantly, you stuck by my side most of my life and you mean a lot to me. You are the role-model that I look up to and still do to this day.

Thank you for playing dress-up and house with me when I didn't have friends or I was bored at home. You helped me put together and play with my Bratz doll beauty salon and we bonded for a long time. Thanks for helping me adjust to high school marching band during my freshman year (despite forgetting sunscreen during band camp and causing the both of us to badly burn). You helped me out when I needed it most.

You helped me out with my homework whenever I was struggling and even gave me tips on how to get the right answers. You came to all my sporting events and music performances whenever nobody else would. Thank you for being my support system.

Thank you for giving me a shoulder to cry on. You always knew the right words to say to me whenever I was down about school or life. You were there if I just wanted to talk because I like having conversations with you about Jimmy Fallon or ice cream or even the U.S. women's gymnastics team. We even know how we like our coffee from Dunkin and whenever SNL was on.

Thanks for having the maternal instincts whenever mom was unable to because she was at work or she was sick. You had that presence only a mother could have and as my older sister you took over when needed. You are awesome.

Even when you went to college and moved out you were still able to help me out. You took time out of your life just to say "Hi" to me and ask how I was doing.

I'll never forget the matching dresses we wore to our cousin's wedding 13 years ago or even the matching t-shirts that dad would bring home from work. Do I have to mention the plaid on New Year's Eve 2000?

Thank you for just being you. You have a sweet side that I never had until I got older and it was because you taught me how to be sweet to others. You guided me during middle school and high school. Whenever I was hurt, you gave me a hug and told me that everything will be alright. Thanks for letting me borrow your nail polishes and wear your clothes in case I needed something last minute to wear out.

You made the mark that in high school teachers referred to me as your sister just so it's easy to recognize who I was.

Thank you for being my role-model. You gave me values and taught me lesson to follow after you graduated so that I would follow tradition or avoid the mistakes that you made.

Finally, thank you for being my sister. You are someone who makes our family worth while. You bring your sparkly and bubbly personality to the table and you impress us with your amazing job. Even though we have our differences, nothing can separate the bond we have as sisters. You are my supporter, my therapist, someone to grow old with, heck you would move mountains to help me out. You understand me on a personal level. You are more honest than anyone else. You even let me be friends with your friends and vice versa (even though some of your friends like me more...kidding!!).

You are and will always be there for me no mater what and I plan on doing the same for you. Thank you for not only being my sister, but my best friend.

Love,

Your Amazing Little Sister Olivia (or Livvy or Sweet Lew)

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
