A Letter To Those Battling Anxiety
Marta Bevacqua

People with anxiety are constantly told things that people think will help them, but often do not. Anxiety is not something that people can control. It is not a switch that individuals can just turn off and "get over." Those who have anxiety can often find themselves feeling alone and isolated and need to hear certain things. I am writing this letter to those I know who are dealing with anxiety. This if for you.

I want you to know that I understand you often distance yourself from your surroundings and friends. I understand that you're not pushing me away and that it's only because you're feeling anxious.

I want you to know that I am here for you. I don't want you to feel as though you are a burden when you talk about your feelings and problems. You are not annoying and you are not a burden. I will be there to listen when you want to rant, want to talk, want to cry, or even just want to bask in complete silence. I will be there.

I want you to know that I am aware that you are trying and giving everything your all. People doubt you and say that "you aren't trying" but trust me, I know you are. You are doing a great job.

I want you to know that you are okay. People tell you this all of the time and by now, you are probably so tired of hearing it, but please believe me when I tell you that you are okay. You are making an effort and a difference.

I'm not going to tell you to get over it. I know that anxiety is not a switch. It is something that overwhelms you and makes everybody feel different for different amounts of time and in different ways. Instead of telling you to get over it, I'm going to tell you to push through it and keep trying your best and move forward.
