A Letter To The Girl That Doesn't Feel Part Of The Team

We all struggle to fit in sometimes.

"Two are better than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it's just too bad, because there is no one to help him. If it is cold, two can sleep together and stay warm, but how can you keep warm by yourself Two people can resist attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break." Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Put that verse into perspective. You're on a team with 23 other girls and guys, but when you're around this group of people, you feel most alone. Do you feel like this? This ones for you.

I'm this girl. I understand what it's like to love something so much, but hate it at the exact same time. To be so excited for practice and games, but dread it once it comes around. You have so much love built up for your sport, it's a second nature, but at the same time you ask yourself, "Am I even really a part of this team?" "Would they even miss me if I quit?" But that's the thing, you've been doing this for so long, if you quit your life wouldn't be the same.

You're probably the same girl who has trouble making friends, or the same girl who has an abundant amount of mental illnesses and a fake smile. I am among both of these categories.

Now, reread the bible verse. What does it mean to you? A team does not consist of one person, although some people believe it is all about them, it is not.

Let's think outside of the box here, they don't know what goes on in your head. You go into practice thinking, "I'm so happy to be here." But then you see the other girls cutting eyes at you. They don't know the things you're struggling with outside of this sport. They haven't taken the time to get to know you. They don't know what hell you've been through, or the demons you've faced. They don't know you leave practice and cry, because you were told you "weren't good enough."

They do not know your whole life you've been told you're not good enough, but look you made it. Remember that, you made it. You made it here without anyone and you can make it out without anyone.

You ARE good enough, it does not matter what they think. The only opinion that matters is yours and Gods.

Ask yourself these questions:

1. Have you grown as an athlete and a person?

2. Are you happy with who you are?

3. Do you say "I can't" even though you know you can?

4. Do you try to get better? Even if they can't see it?

These are all things to think about. You made it here. You ARE amazing. You CAN conquer. You CAN be the best. But to be the best, you need to believe in yourself and be the best YOU.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
