A Letter To Students Taking Finals

A Season Of Struggle

A Letter To Students Taking Finals
Lauren Stone

Hello, you superstar student,

I am here to wish you good luck on your exams, projects, and presentations this week. While I know that you are wondering how you even got this far in the semester and how you’re managing to function on a daily basis, I want to give you some words of advice for this finals season.

My first words of advice is that sleep is the most important. For all of you who think pulling all-nighters every day with six Redbull’s and four venti iced coffees from Starbucks will help you get that A, you’re wrong. I say this from experience, PLEASE SLEEP. There is nothing worse than being so tired that your head bobbles up and down as you read the first question on an exam over and over and over again. I repeat, please sleep!

Next, please eat! I know some people get really distracted with what they’re doing and forget to actually eat but it’s so necessary. Avocados are said to help you focus because of their natural fats, so load up on those or even some guacamole at the least. Also, nobody in the library wants to hear the nasty sounds of someone’s stomach gurgling, so save us all from those noises. You’ll be glad you did, I promise! Don’t over eat though, either. Stress can get the best of all of us and we binge on junk food and just over eat in general, and then we regret that too when studying. Find yourself a happy medium.

Next word of advice- you’ve made it this far so don’t give up. All of the classes you attended, the notes you took, the lectures you listened to, the homework you turned in, and the group projects you suffered through, will all pay off after this week. You haven’t made it this far just to say “I quit”. All of us fellow students understand your pain and we are all in the same boat, so know that you’re not alone. We all look forward to the home cooked meals, no alarms waking us up every morning, and the daily stress of classes and patiently waiting for professors to reply to your emails. You will make it through, I will make it through, and all of us will make it through this season of struggle. Push through it and do your best because I know you can!

My last word of advice is to never wish time away. Even though finals are a really stressful time, just remember all of the memories and people you have met through all of your classes each semester that you can’t picture your life without. As much as some of us are ready to start our lives in the “real world” these will be the best years of our lives people say, so make sure to keep that in mind when you are wishing you could just graduate already.

Enjoy your finals everyone and good luck with exams!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
