A Letter To The Student Who Isn't Sure

Dear Student,

Now you may be wondering what the heck you’re going to do with your life. That’s why I’m here, to tell you you're not alone, and that sometimes all you need is a little trust.

I am no one to be confident about much of anything, not even from the career I want to pursue to the outfit I will wear each morning. One thing I am confident in is that I will one day have this moment, an epiphany if you will, that I will know exactly what I want to do with my future. At a time I had thought this moment had passed and I was following the path to happiness. Then after reconsideration I realized, I had made my mind up to please other people and not myself. This was essentially my first mistake. I wasn't 100% positive about my major but I knew I wanted something within the medical field, but not exactly what I had set out to do. My life had been thrown upside down and backwards. I was lost, and I still am, but the only difference I know it’s okay to not know.

College is a time to explore. Not just the new places in a new town, or the new people you will meet each day, but everyone should explore themselves as well. If you get faint at the sight of blood, the medical field isn’t exactly for you. If you hate your calculus class freshman year, maybe an accountant isn’t the right fit either. But that’s okay. The only way you will find out what your niche is, is to explore. I know it is horrendously boring but do some research, it goes a long way.

Lastly, over those three months of freedom we call summer, just about every student needs a job to make some money. But instead of working at your local ice cream shop, or diner maybe look into a field that might interest you. If you can’t exactly work in a hospital or accounting office, try volunteering, shadowing or interning. Yes, it will not provide you with the financial reward you would like, but it does allow you to have some sort of better understanding of what will work and what won’t.

Most importantly, don’t stress too much. We are 18 years old, no one is expecting you to decide what you want to do with your entire life right now, you haven’t even lived a quarter of it. If you feel overwhelmed, just remember that you are not alone, and your time will come that an opportunity will come into your life and it will open a brand new door that you maybe have never even thought of. Stay open minded kid, and remember you got this.

Sincerely,

A Confused College Student

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
