Thinking back to my first year in college, I would have never imagined the amazing things that were to come. I remember my first move in like it was yesterday.. All of the introductions to new people, your family flooding your room with all of your stuff, the awkward first questions shared between you and your roommate.. So many things happening all at once. It can be a little overwhelming at first. But, you can now see that those things are slight memories of the past. You are now all moved in, you’ve found your place, and classes aren’t actually as bad as you thought they would be. You are now starting to get into the groove of things and then all of the sudden, winter break comes. You spend that month catching up with old friends, hanging out with family, and working to earn some extra money before you return. But just like that.. Winter break comes to an end. And the thoughts of second semester come flooding into your mind.

I’m here to tell you.. Things will be just fine. I’m not gonna lie to you. You might get stressed, you will definitely get tired, and maybe you will feel like you’re drowning in homework. But you have made it this far, and the end goal outweighs all of the struggle you will overcome. You have to constantly remind yourself that you are here doing this for a reason. College is one of the most difficult things you may go through.. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it. Live it up, because one day you’ll look back and it will be over. I’m telling you this from personal experience. College goes so fast. Just take a breath and remember, you are doing the right thing, and you are going to be just fine. So, once all of your homework is done, curl up on the couch with your friends, watch those movies way too late into the night, eat the junk food, and be thankful for the opportunities you have in life. You are doing just fine. It’s okay to struggle.. But DO NOT let those struggles define your life. Work through them, and you will feel so much better.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
