A Letter To The Sponsors, Donors And Volunteers Of Square Meals

Hi, everyone

I say everyone because there are so many awesome and generous sponsors and donors of the Square Meals Program here in Columbia, KY. I have worked in the food truck at Square Meals since April. You may not know me and I may not have ever even met all of you, but I see the awesome things you guys have done for Square Meals. You all help feed 100 or more children every Saturday. Not to mention all of the college students you help feed like myself. Even small things like plastic forks or Clorox wipes to clean off the tables when the children are done eating. Everything is appreciated and never goes unnoticed.People are so willing to help that we have a married couple that if the husband donates, the wife always comes later and donates as well. Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition. ;) All of the donors and sponsors have other things to pay for and families of their own, but still find ways to contribute to the Square Meals Program. The program runs entirely on donations and the staff thanks you all so much for your generosity and kindness. We wouldn't be where we are in the program without everyone's help.

I also want to thank our incredibly dedicated and awesome volunteers. From pouring drinks to entertaining the children, volunteers are always there to help and assist. We have volunteers of all ages. A little girl named Chelsey helped us out one day and has been our youngest volunteer yet. She wiped down tables, helped with food demos, and poured drinks for people. You're never too young to help out your community. We also have tons of awesome Bonner students from Lindsey Wilson who come on some Saturday's and help us out. Last but definitely not least is the adults who work full time, go to school full time, and have families of their own to take care of. These people have tons of other obligations but still make it out every Saturday to help all of us. To all of the volunteers young and grown: The staff at the Farmer's Market wholeheartedly thanks you and know that things would not run as smoothly as it does without everyone's help.

Every Saturday I am amazed and at awe as we feed anywhere from 30-100 children and adults. It makes me so happy to see a community full of love and cooperation. I am so happy to be apart of the Tucker's Station Farm Staff. I am entirely too thankful to be apart of the Square Meals Program and have an awesome right hand lady to help me cook, Pamela Felker.

The following is a list of sponsors & donors in no particular order: Modern Woodman Fraternal Financial, Sherri McIver, Anthony's Auto, Betty's OK Country Cooking, Blackaby Hill Farm, Central Church of Christ, Community Voice, Kyle Dalton, Lawless and Smith Appliance Super Center, Stephens Pipe and Steel, Tucker's Station Farm, WAIN Radio, Bank of Columbia, Adair County Garden Club, Andrew Farm, Burton Real Estate and Auction Service, Coffey's Veterinary Center, Dr. S Giles & Associates, Lisa Greer, Grinsky's Jewelry, Heavenly Homestead Cheese, J & H Implement CoLake Cumberland Properties, Life Touch, Reed Brothers Insurance, Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Walmart, Wilson & Sons Building Supply. Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

9 Reasons Why Friends Are Essential In College

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
