A Letter To Sleep

This is my letter to sleep.

Dear Sleep,

I know that lately, I’ve been pretty busy. Staying up until 4 or 5 a.m. to study for finals means I get less time with you. And then laying in bed to listen to music or go on facebook means I am cutting into our “quality time.” But trust me, I still care about you. I still need you and I promise we will be spending more time together. I wanted to write this letter to talk about why you are so important to me and why I need more of you.

The first reason you are so important to me is because of the wonders you can do to my tired body. Some nights I don’t even have the energy to crawl into bed, but as soon as I do I know I’ll wake up to feel a hundred times better. That boost of energy has saved me numerous times whether it was used before a test in a hard class or just before hanging out with some friends. I know you’ll always have my back whenever I need some more energy. It’s that little bit of extra energy that keeps me coming back to you.

The second reason you are so important to me is because of the magical worlds you can take me to. Some nights I dream I am on a distant planet away from all my worries and problems that I have to face during the day. Knowing that when I close my eyes there is a chance to be taken to a distant place makes you more important than you will ever know. Of course, sometimes I am taken straight to my problems. These nightmares make me regret even coming to you and I hate that. So, could you do me a favor and leave out the nightmares? That would make things a whole lot better.

The last reason that you are so important to me is because you are always there for me. Whether I am in a car, on a train or a plane you always have time for me. All I have to do is find a comfortable position to lay in and then you come. Having you there for me all the time makes life a little more suitable. Thank you, sleep, for always being there for me. In a world where friends come and go it is nice to know that one thing will always be there. Just promise me you won’t leave anytime soon.

So, now that you hear my three reasons why you mean so much to me I hope that tonight we can reconnect. Catch up on what we have missed and once again dream of a new world to discover. I know that you will be there for me and that you will bring with you a new adventure. I promise you that in the future I will do better about getting enough of you. Just give me time to finish my school work.

Love,

Jacob

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
