A Letter To My Quad Squad

The four best friends that we will always be and if something were to ever happen, this is what I would like each of you to know.

A Letter To My Quad Squad
Alyssa Olsem

Dear Quad Squad,

We are made up of food runs, perverted jokes, and day long shopping trips. We laugh at and with each other. We tell each other how it is and aren't afraid to hold back our own opinions. We are four completely different human beings that have come together to take on the world, just as we are about to separate and embark on our own adventures in college. As we begin to part ways soon, anything could happen to any one of us.

In a year or two, we may no longer be friends and may become acquaintances, or our bond may have grown stronger within distance. Who knows what the world has in store for us, so let's have cheers to the few weeks we have left together. Cheers to the arguments we have experienced and grown from, cheers to the insane giggle fits at any time of day, and cheers to the love we have for each other.

This whole summer, we have planned around each other's schedules and now that it is August, we have to schedule around our departure dates. We have experienced so much together, and I have admired each of you since we first met. I aspire to have the confidence each of you contains.

You are all beautiful in your own ways, and your souls glow with warmth and kindness. You all will have successful and bright futures ahead of you and I can't wait to watch your life unfold before your eyes. I appreciate your care for me more than you could ever know.

I hope you will all receive the love you deserve from a significant other, don't settle because you deserve to be treated and respected like the queens you are. I know this isn't goodbye for forever, but as we move on to bigger and better things in the world, I want you to remember the little things.

The silence between us as we eat our ice cream in the shop, the sing-along dance jams in the car, the forgiveness we give each other after an argument, the way each of us talk when we are passionate about something, the way our face brightens and the hugs we give to each other after we go to long without seeing each other, and the way each of us smiles when we were truly happen.

The love I have for the Quad Squad is endless and I hope I never have to say goodbye to any one of you. Thank you for the love and support.

Sincerely,

1/4 of the Quad Squad

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
