Dear Harris,
Hey! It’s me, Hanna, your owner. How ya doing? You cozy? Do you have enough room to swim around? I just cleaned your bowl last night, so hopefully you’re doing pretty well. I see you already started blowing bubbles, I guess that means you’re happy. I hope you’re overjoyed with being my fish. I try my best to take very good care of you. I remember when I first picked you out. You were no more than a going away gift, a way to remember the ones I left behind in my hometown, but you are so much more than that. You are my roommate, my companion, my sidekick. You are the one constant I have had during my hellacious freshman year, and for that, I want to thank you. And if I’m going to start thanking you I might as well go down my list of reasons why I appreciate you.
You Love To Eat Just As Much As I Do
We have a lot in common, Harris. Okay, actually we don’t. But we both LOVE food. I never feel bad about being constantly hungry around you because I know that you’re always down to eat too. By the way, are you hungry? Because I’m hungry.
You’re Pretty Good at Keeping Secrets
You’ve heard me swoon over plenty of guys. You’ve listened to me brainstorm numerous gift ideas for several different occasions. You’re the only one I have actually broken down in front of. And yet you would never tell a soul. You understand that some things need to stay between the two of us.
You Haven’t Left Me
This may sound a little crazy because you are, in fact, a fish in a bowl and cannot just get up and leave at any given moment. Freshman year has been absolutely insane. So many people have come into my life and have left just as quickly. But you have stuck with my through the ups and the downs.
You’re Social Even When I’m not
When you’re sitting on the desk in my bedroom, you like to watch me while I do my homework. When you’re on the counter in the apartment, you always want to know what’s up. When you’re back home in Virginia, you’re constantly curious about what’s going on. My friends love you, my family loves you, and I love you, you little social butterfly.
You Don’t Judge Me
Remember last semester when I waited to write my final English essay the night before it was due and I was stressed and panicking and I ate that entire bag of Twizzlers by myself? Or when I stayed in my jammies all day? (Okay maybe this happens more often than not). Remember this morning when I danced on the kitchen counter and belted my heart out to show tunes for a good two hours? Or how I decided to stay in last night doing business homework instead of going out? There are a ton of things that I do that you could most definitely judge me for, but you don’t. You accept me for who I am.
As you can see, there are an abundant amount of reasons why I love you. And when you think about it, you have all the qualities that one looks for in a best friend. Coincidence? I think not! Harris, you are my best friend, my amigo, my pal, my buddy. Thank you for being you and for being there for me.
Love you bunches,
Hanna
