A Letter To People With A "Me First" Attitude

Dear Mr./Ms. Selfish,

Let's get one thing straight, the world doesn't revolve around you. Regardless of what you think, there are bigger issues in the world. I'm tired of hearing about how hard your life is when one little issue arises. Your attitude is hideous and what I'd love to do is ship you off on a service trip. I bet most of you have never even gotten your hands dirty. Well, here's a little letter to give you a reality check.

Sharing stories with you is the absolute worst because somehow your accomplishments always seem to outshine mine. Even though something fabulous just happened in my life, you always turn it around to make the story about you. Some advice, start listening more.

Even though you think you're entitled to everything, you're not. You are just like the rest of us. Although it seems like such a burden to wait with the rest of us "peasants," you're not royalty, so get off your high horse. Some advice, get some patience.

Sorry, but this isn't "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." No one cares about your life as nearly as much as you think they do. You're not a celebrity, people only know what's happening in your life because you fully document it. Some advice, Snapchat isn't the daily news, stop giving me a play by play.

Have some respect for the world around you. Shockingly, other people matter too. That person you just cut off because your time is more important, might be late to a meeting that could determine the rest of their life. Some advice, put others first for once.

If you're reading this letter like, "Wow, this really resonates with me," there's always time to make a change. Realize having a "me first" attitude is truly an ugly personality trait. I'm not saying it's not OK to put yourself first sometimes, but make it within reason. If more people would have a "me last" attitude, the world would be a better place.

Warmest regards,

The girl who's over your crappy attitude.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
