To My Parents

Words will never be able to express how thankful I am.

Dear mom and dad,

Saying “thank you” a million times, and a million times over again, could never express how truly thankful I am to have you as my parents. You have instilled qualities in my character that I could never repay you for. You are the most genuine, kind-hearted people who I am lucky enough to call “mom and dad”.

I want to start by saying thank you for teaching me to be ambitious. Whether it is a sport, school, or life in general, you have taught me never to give up on a goal that I may have. You have never failed to remind me that I can do anything that I set my mind to and that giving up is never an option. You have shown me where hard-work and determination will take you in life and if things aren’t going the way that I want, there will always be other opportunities waiting for me.

Thank you for showing me what true love really looks like. Whether you are loving each other or you are loving me and Kevin, you exhibit the most amazing version of love. You have taught us to never settle for less than we deserve and have proved to us that chivalry is not dead. Watching you both, I know never to go to bed upset with people that I love, to never hold grudges against anyone, and to always forgive and forget. At the end of the day, no matter what arguments we get in, you never forget to tell me how much you love me.

Thank you for demonstrating what it means to be humble. No matter the success that I may earn in my endeavors, you have taught me to always strive for better. Even if I think that I have exceeded my expectations, you teach me that there is always something bigger and better out there for me.

Thank you for making sure that I am nothing short of respectful. You have instilled communicative skills, a positive attitude, and genuine respect that I will be able to take with me in any path I take. You have shown me what amazing opportunities arise from being respectful to everyone that I interact with and that being a friend to just about anyone is an incredible ability to have.

To sum it all up, thank you for giving me anything and everything that I could ever ask for. Thanking you for only a few qualities does not give justice to how amazing of parents you are. You have given everything to make my life the best that it can possibly be and I would not trade it for anything. I know we butt heads and disagree sometimes, but that does not reflect how much you both mean to me and how much I love you.

Mom, I know that you would go to the ends of the earth to make sure Kevin and I are having the best quality of life. You surpass any expectation that a mother has and take on responsibilities that should never be of your own. You have the kindest heart with a caring personality that radiates from each part of your body. You are always willing to drop whatever you are doing to have a conversation with me about any topic that may be on my mind. It is impossible to put into words the amount of love I have for you.

Dad, I can’t thank you enough for being able to take on both roles while mom was traveling during the week. Being able to help me with my hair, clothes, or other motherly tasks that you chose to do, created the wonderful bond we have today. You have shown me that I am capable of anything and remind me when I don’t achieve something to my fullest potential. I know that I can always go to you if I want to laugh until my stomach hurts or when I need to hear the most amazing advice. You are my hero in so many ways and I will always be your little girl.

I love you both,

Jess

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
