A Letter To My Older Brother Taking His Next Step In Life

Man, it feels like just yesterday you and I were outside in the driveway playing one-on-one basketball (and of course you always won) Now, within a blink of an eye you are graduating from your Master’s program and are off into the real world! Sitting just days away from your new reality, here is my advice to you.

Travel!! I know it might sound time consuming and possibly expensive but now is your time to see way beyond what is offered in the United States. Whether it may be Europe, an island, Asia, South America, etc., promise me you will take on your dream trip! You would be surprised what you learn and take in just by spending a week or two in a different country. You observe new people, new scenery, a new culture and much more! Do what you can to experience your dream place, you won’t regret it.

Follow your heart! Whatever feels right in the moment, chase after it. Whatever may feel uncomfortable or unclear, take it in and think about it. Sometimes it is okay to go after things that are found outside your comfort zone. For now, do what you think is best for you. If that means going back to college, do it! If it means taking on your dream career, it is all yours! Whatever it may be that is calling your name, don’t lose sight of it. Everything happens for a reasons. All that takes place is meant to be.

Have fun! Just because you aren’t in college anymore and are considered a ‘big boy’ now, nowhere does it say that means you can’t have fun. Continue to meet new people, drink while your liver is still young (sorry mom & dad) and always be open to new adventures. You still are living through your mid-twenties. Don’t let a college degree and a full time job stop you from being the fun and outgoing great guy you are.

Never forget where you came from! As much as we all say that we won’t ever miss our hometown or have zero interest in ever returning, always keep a place in your heart on where you became the person you are now. Yes, you have experienced other towns and cities that have played a significant part in your life but nothing will ever beat the friends, memories, and family found in your hometown.

Know that I love you and am super proud of you! To think you now have 2 degrees more than me… that is beyond crazy!! 10 years ago, you were the goofball of a brother whose life was all about basketball. Now look at you!?! Soon, you will be living in the great city of Pittsburg taking on an incredible career doing what you love. Words can’t describe my emotion and excitement for you. You have always and will continue to be the older brother that I will look up to for guidance, strength, love & support. Keep doing great things! I love you, Bro.

Love,

Your proud younger sis

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

(For Girls Who Are Interested In Greek Life)

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
