My old friend,

Growing up with you was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’m glad to say that you were my first friend. I remember those nights at each other's houses, halloween nights when I ate your chocolate because you don’t like it and a fair share of birthday parties. Starting our friendship when we were still toddlers made our bond strong. Spending days together at daycare meant hours playing together and even taking naps next to each other. We became fast friends. Looking back at pictures from our younger years always makes me miss those days. Freaking out over a lost tooth, making lego towers, and playing outside. If only life was that simple now, but back then it was the best life I could have imagined.

We may have grown apart at times, being separated by different schools and activities, but I’m glad we shared those moments together. Sleepovers were always a treat after not seeing you for a while. Hanging out in the hot tub listening to Disney Princess Music, or just goofing off in general. Middle school and high school became another challenge. You became a cheerleader, and I was a band geek, (cliche I know). However, that year I tried cheer, you made it a lot more fun than I could have imagined. I was glad that we had those laughs and good times together. Those times spent together were that much more fun, because it was like old times.

Even though we may have been separated at some times, I knew I could always count on you, and you always had a friend in me. Time apart did not affect our friendship much, we still acted the same. We had many laughs together, and I knew that if I needed a friend, you would be there. Through the good times and the bad, we still stuck up for each other, even with the silliest of high school drama. Our friendship never failed.

Now that we have gone our separate ways at college, I think the majority of our time together has come to an end, but the memories we had will always be there. We may only make a few more new memories from this point, but the past has shaped us into who we are today. You helped me grow as a person through many ups and downs. You had an important role in my childhood. I would not be the same if I didn’t get to spend that time with you. Seeing your posts on Facebook, and Snapchat stories makes me smile to see that you are doing well in your life. I know you will go off to do great things someday, because as kids you had so much passion and dedication. You are a brilliant woman with the whole world ahead of you. Thank you for being my best friend for our childhood, it made all the difference in my life.

Thank you for nearly 2 decades of friendship. You will always be my first friend, even if we may not be together any more.

Love,

Caitlin

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
