To my sister (and any other freshmen),
As summer is coming to an end, and August is winding up, I know how hectic it can be. All of the stores are packed with back to school shoppers, and you have to fight your way through to get the perfect folder for your Algebra 1 class.
You got your schedule, and now it is just a waiting game until the first bell rings, signaling your first day of freshman year. I know how scary it is to not know who may be in your class, or if there will be a familiar face at all. But, as scary as it is, I know you will be just fine.
Two of my best friends are not even from my middle school. I met them during my freshman year of high school. Your friend group will grow, and shrink and finally even out as you reach your senior year. The people you are in group chats with now will soon be forgotten as their Snapchat streaks are replaced with that new girl in French class, or that new face in Chemistry. You will be making so many new connections, it may even be overwhelming. So, don't fret about the first day go with the flow and everything will work out.
High school can be tough, but please know you are more than capable of handling it. I have no worries about your capability of doing exceptionally well. You have the support of so many. Just do your best, and the rest will take care of itself.
The first day will be overwhelming, as you are walking into cramped hallways packed with 3,000 students and you maybe know 200. But, as you start to take the opportunities offered and join clubs, sports and activities, the school will become smaller, and smaller and smaller.
Enjoy every second of freshman year. Go to all of the football games, spend time with your new friends, go see the new movie at the opening premiere, seize every opportunity. This is a unique time in your life. You have more responsibilities, but with that comes new freedoms. This is the only time in your life when you can have carefree fun without the worry of paying bills or paying for your room. Do not worry about the small stuff and drama because it is all irrelevant, even if it does not feel like it at the moment. You will look back and realize how much better off you are without that one person, or how draining that one class was and you will be so happy it was over. But, with other things, you will look back and realize just how fast high school can be.
Soon, you will be looking back on your first day of freshman year, reflecting as a senior. I know it sounds cliche, but it goes by so fast. Soon, you will be able to park in the senior lots, take the ACT and figure out what college you are going to. The future will always be there, but high school is a one time deal. So enjoy, and do not wish away your childhood, because as sad as it will be to actually grow up and say bye to friends, it will be harder to watch you do it.
All my love and well wishes as you take on this new year. I know you will rock it.
Love,
Chloe
