A Letter To Myself In 5 Years

I hope you're proud of everything you've become.

Dear you,

It's been five years. Five years since you moved yourself 1,000 miles away from everything and everyone you've known. I hope that now looking back you still truly believe that was the best decision for you and your future. You were just nineteen years old back then, to some that's just a baby, but to you, you felt like you've made our fair share of trips around the sun already. Now you're twenty-four years old...I bet you think that's old, but realize that you have so many years to do everything you've dreamed and I hope you do them all.

Congratulations, you graduated from college now! I know anything could happen, but I have never had a doubt in my mind about one thing, you'll finish and get the degree you've always wanted. I hope you decided and hope it was a easy decision to make whether you got your Nursing degree to be that ER nurse that helps save those lives who happened to have the worst day of their lives or if you continued to read those books you always spent too much money on to become that badass FBI agent you always felt you were destined to be. Either way, never give up. Keep pursuing your dreams, big or small even when people tell you things aren't worth it.

I bet you're getting married soon...I hope you're not becoming a complete bridezilla with all the crazy things you have to get done. Or maybe you're already married, I could definitely see that being the case. Whichever the answer is I hope you love him. I hope he makes you smile from ear to ear. I hope he treats you like you're his queen and you better be treating him like a king. I hope you two still play fight constantly, and spend your days apart missing each other, and especially still always going to Applebee's as your go to date. If you're still with that same boyfriend that moved 1000 miles away for you...god bless him for putting up with you, don't ever let him go.

Overall, I hope you found happiness with yourself. Take some time to relax, if you still stress all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if you were starting to discover some grey hairs. You better look at yourself in the mirror and be happy with what you see because I know you've come a long way from what you used to be looking back at you. You deserve to be extremely proud of yourself. You did this all on your own. Whether your life ended up how you planned it, I know you'll be making the best of it. I hope you got everything you wanted out of being in the military. I hope Halloween is still your favorite Holiday and I hope you still love Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee more than life itself. Please remember to treat yourself every now and then. I hope you stay wild and never lose that adventure in your eyes. Always fight on.

Love, me

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
