To My Nieces, From Their Uncle, Please Enjoy Life

As I get older, I realize that family is the one constant thing I have in my life. Most of my friends will come into my life for a season. I do something to tick them off or they do something to tick me off. It is just a casualty of being a human. I get repeatedly stabbed in the back over and over again by these in-and-out friendships. But one thing that will never change is the love I have for you, Clarissa and Scarlette. The moment both of you were born were a few of the happiest times in my life.

Your smiling faces fill me up with so much joy.

I love the little hugs and kisses I get from you and I love giving you hugs and kisses. I love teasing you about how I am going to delete all the recorded episodes of "Paw Patrol." But I never truly will. Because I see how "Paw Patrol" brings out the imagination and wonder in you both. I love reading countless books for you. The way you stare at me in amazement helps me affirm to myself that I matter.

I promise to be there for you both at times when talking to your father and mother is not what you want to do.

I will be there to help you both through the struggles of life and be your #3 cheerleader in life (because your mommy and daddy are your #1 cheerleaders). I will be there to break the arms of the little boys that break your hearts and protect you as much as an uncle can. I will be at your graduations cheering for you as you walk across the stage to receive your diploma.

Every day that passes and every day you both grow up a little older, I realize that it is one less day I can spend with "my little munchkins."

You get older and I realize that I am getting older too. It's one more year of life experiences designed to mature and educate me. But the one thing I have learned from being an uncle to both of you, it's that I shouldn't lose my youthful heart. My sense of wonder. Imagination. You see kids, you both have become my teacher. You all taught me to love every day of life and be as optimistic about the future as possible.

Being your uncle is a huge blessing. I love you, Clarissa and Scarlette.

Love, Uncle Matt.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
