An Open Letter To My Mom
Kayla Dodson

Dear Mom,

I want to start by saying thank you times a million. Thank you for raising me and helping me become the person that I am today. Without you, I'd truly be lost. Thank you for being there to support me in the many dance recitals and figure skating competitions throughout my life. You have always been there for me through the many hardships and heartaches. Thank you for being a light and showing me that things really do get better. Thank you for sharing countless smiles and laughs with me until we cry. I can't thank you enough for pushing me to do the things that I can now say that I've accomplished and overcome. My heart is filled with so much gratitude when I think about what an amazing and strong mother that I have. So, thank you again.

Next, I want to say that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all the times that I've made you upset with me. I apologize for the times that I didn't try hard enough in school or my extracurricular activities. Even though you'd always say it's on me if I don't try my best, I know it still hurt you too to see me struggle. I'm sorry for all of the small arguments as well as the big. Time is precious, and so is every minute that I get to spend with you. So, I'm sorry for not taking advantage of the times that I could have enjoyed spending with you. I'm sorry for all of the times that I didn't listen to you because I'm stubborn and then having things go wrong because of it. You're my rock, and I'm sorry for not leaning on you when I should have and needed you. I have learned from my mistakes, though, and I continue to do so every day. Regardless of the mistakes I've made, I still continue to pick myself back up every time with you by my side.

Lastly, I want to say that I love you. I love you because you have such a strong spirit, and you have taught me to be strong as well. You have dealt with and put up with my craziness all these years, and I love you for that. I love that you understand me and know me better than anyone else in this world. You have given and taught me so much. You deserve the world, mom. I love you because you can always make me laugh and know how to put me in a better mood. I can talk to you about anything and everything without judgment, and for that, I love you as well. Each day, I still grow to love you more and more because you mean the world to me.

Thank you for simply being my mom. I would not be the person that I am today without you in my life. I know that I will still apologize for many more things in the future as I get older. Even when I continue to stumble and fall through this crazy obstacle that we call life, I know that you'll always still be there to help me back up and guide the way. Throughout everything, though, we will both always love each other. I am so proud and thankful to be your daughter. I love you endlessly, mom.

Love,

Your Daughter

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
