Being a transfer student is hard. Coming into a school a year later than everyone else and not quite knowing the ropes yet. Much like being a freshman all over again. When I went to a community college I was so miserable. I refused to make friends, I went to class and went home. Coming to MBU was a huge transition for me but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I brag constantly that I am at a school that lets me play my sports get a great education, & grow closer to God.
1. Everyone is so welcoming
Walking across campus is such a cool thing, because almost everyone I pass will smile and ask how I'm doing. A majority of the time I don't even know these people, but they'll take time to smile and say hi to you. My RA always does events and invites us to hang out while she's on duty, or even eat breakfast and watch Disney movies. My RD opens up her apartment for her residents to bake cookies with her and her family. Smiling friendly faces really makes Missouri Baptist university feel like home.
2. There is something for EVERYONE
Don't think you won't come to MBU and not find your place. Whether you're here for athletics, music, or neither- there's a place for you. MBU has countless clubs to get yourself involved. Everyone on campus has an opportunity to make an impact on Missouri Baptist University for years to come.
3. There's always opportunities for on-campus activities
Many people come to MBU from far away and don't have the opportunities to go home on the weekends. Living on campus is great because 9 times out of 10, you'll see a flyer for events with free food (free food is the best food). One day I was walking to class and there was a huge blow-up obstacle course and no one questioned it, it just happened. At least once a week there's some activity on campus whether it be bible study, a hall event, or an event in the quad. There's always something to do and it's a great way to get out of your comfort zone and meet new people.
4. My professors know me and care about me
My classes are no larger than 30 people, meaning my professor has no problem learning everyone in their classes. All of my teachers know I'm very involved and make it a point to ask me how I'm doing in my sport. I have a teacher who talks to athletes about their sports. She may not know everything about every sport, but she listens and appreciates stories we have. Another teacher makes it a point to talk to my coach about how I'm doing in class. Teachers are your best resources and I'm glad mine care about not only how I'm doing in class, but how I'm doing outside of class.
I had many different choices for where I wanted to go to college, and I would choose Missouri Baptist University time and time again. I feel so at home with all that MBU has to offer for everyone. I am so glad Missouri Baptist University was in God's plan for me, because I have never been happier.
