A Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

I never thought there would come a day that you wouldn’t be just a few minutes away. Whether I needed someone to go to the mall with me, was fighting with my mom and needed somewhere to hide out, or just wanted someone to talk to, you were always my go to. Ever since middle school, almost every single day was spent with you, and the thought of being hundreds of miles apart broke my heart.

I got lucky though. Somehow, after being separated by state borders and having to go months without seeing each other, we’re closer than ever. Two years out of high school, you’re still my go to, and I couldn’t thank you enough for that.

I would be lying if I said out friendship hasn’t changed in some ways. Our late night Applebee’s runs have been replaced by midnight Facetime calls. Instead of spending the day holding down the couch and venting to each other, it’s now an endless stream of hate texts about all the latest drama. Now, weekends spent together are a chaotic mash up of reminiscing on old times, catching up, and making up for countless girls nights missed.

Thank you for never letting us drift apart even when we’re both drowning with responsibilities. Thank you for always finding the time to listen all of my problems while still figuring out your own. Thank you for encouraging and supporting me from afar. But most of all, thank you for becoming friends with the weird girl on your cheerleading team all those years ago, she doesn’t know what she would’ve done without you.

People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
