A Letter To Indiana University South Bend
Indiana University South Bend- Office of Admissions

Dear Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) and all who contribute to this institution,

There are so many things I want to say to IUSB. First and foremost, I’d like to say thank you for being here and so readily available. A lot of students, including myself, might be a little jealous of the exclusivity and high esteem that comes with being a student of the big college campus right next door to us (a.k.a. Notre Dame). However, IUSB offers so much more than a lot of students realize, and part of that is thanks to the network of colleges and universities that are practically in our backyard.

Students here can enjoy small class sizes and available professors while also attending major conferences and events that are only offered at the local bigger universities. It’s also nice to be able to support a local Division I football team, right? IUSB offers the best of both worlds. One can reap the benefits of a small college while not being too far from a bigger university’s lifestyle.

Indiana University is a major network in itself and it is pretty amazing to be able to say that at the end of this four or five year journey, I could end up with a degree from IU. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity that IUSB has given me to continue my education.

In one semester, IUSB has helped me learn a lot about what I can do for myself and what I still need to work on. I learned that I need to study more and watch Netflix less, but a break every once in awhile is necessary to keep myself functioning. IUSB has also helped me make some awesome friends. Thanks to the late night pizza runs during finals and the weekend SAC workouts, my roommate and I have become insanely close. I have IUSB to thank for that.

When I started this semester, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t know if I would enjoy going to class, or if I would want to come back for the spring semester. IUSB has completely surpassed my expectations so, in the end, I would like to say thank you.

Sincerely,
An Excited Freshman

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
