A Letter To My Housemates As We Start Senior Year

This house, and my life, wouldn't be the same without you all.

A Letter To My Housemates As We Start Senior Year
Brendon Boldt

To my housemates as we start our senior year:

We've come such a long way from those tiny, cramped freshman dorms with no A/C, communal bathrooms, and barely any room to breathe. Yet here we are, beginning our last year of college. Although it's nice to (finally) have our very own rooms, it's even nicer to have that luxury while still being able to live with our closest friends. We can stay in our own rooms if we need space, but if we want to see each other, all we have to do is step into the hallway or yell down the stairs.

We've all had some rough living experiences in the past, but I know this year will be the best yet. It's sad to think that this is the last year that we will be able to have family meals, decorate our living room, and experience life together. While all of us are excited for the future, with it will come huge lifestyle changes from what we're currently used to.

You've each impacted my life in one way or another, and our house (and my life) just wouldn't be the same without each and every one of you in it. Even though we've all gotten on each other's nerves at times, there is no one else I would rather share a house with for my last 2 semesters of college.

So, thank you. Thank you for listening to me complain about schoolwork, midterms, and finals. Thank you for sharing that pain with me. Thank you for late-night runs to the diner for milkshakes and for movie nights on the weekends. Thank you for procrastinating with me, going grocery shopping together, and cooking (or attempting to do so) with me. Thank you for being there for me on my best days, and also on my worst. Thank you for making me laugh every day and for killing spiders when I'm too scared. Thank you for allowing me to be myself and embracing me for it.

Thank you for allowing me to finally feel at home while away at school. Thank you for encouraging me to finish that homework assignment or take a break when needed. Thank you for Starbucks and Dunkin' runs and for late-night snack times. Thank you for making me a better person.

Even after we've graduated and moved on, we will always have the memories we've made. And for that, I owe you the biggest thank you of all.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
