An Open Letter To My High School And College Best Friend

Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

First, for letting me sit beside you when I was the new girl at school. For letting me join your friend group, and for hanging out with me at high school football and basketball games. Thanks for going shopping and out to eat with me. Thanks for letting me join your prom group and for dancing the night away when our dates were too scared to dance with us.

Thank you for continuing to be my friend throughout all the high school drama. I know we tried our best to steer our way out of it, but certain people and certain situations just happen. Thanks for never letting it affect our friendship.

Thank you for enjoying the same things I did in high school. It meant so much to have a friend who enjoyed having leadership roles, serving the community and taking A.P. and honors classes as much as I did. No judgement -- we just understood. And you better believe we rocked it out on graduation day!

Thank you for always being there to talk about anything. Little things, important things and everything. I remember when you decided where you wanted to go to college, and we found out we would be going to the same one! I remember when we realized we were both going to be the same major!

Thanks for not getting mad when I decided I wanted a "random" roommate freshman year in college, and for letting me stay over when my freshman roommate turned out to be a little different.

I know you didn't have any control over this, but thanks for living in the residence hall right next door to mine. And for living in the cool dorm. And for having cool friends!

Thanks for letting me be your third wheel and inviting me to go sledding when it snowed. There's nothing like the hill by the UNG library! I seriously had so much fun!

Thanks for picking me up at the Pizza Hut when my car broke down at 11:00pm on my way home from work.

Thank you for eating Chick-fil-A with me on our first "move out" day! It has been a tradition for me ever since!

Thanks for being spontaneous and going with me to a country music festival (even though you don't really like country music). Thanks, too, for not judging my crazy obsession with all of the artists.

Thanks for sitting at McDonald's and listening to me rant until 2 in the morning when I thought I was falling in love with that one guy. Thanks for helping me get ready for my dates and for listening to me talk about the guys I date in general. (I know you can't keep count, but thanks for pretending!)

Thanks for always making time for me even though you had other priorities, like a boyfriend, 3 jobs at one time, classes, extra-curricular activities and family events.

Thanks for always helping me with my homework, for helping me write my resume and cover letter, for teaching me how to make a LinkedIn, saving me a seat in class and always encouraging me to do my best!

Thank you for not having a place to live senior year, and for moving in when we had an opening! Thanks for always unloading the dishwasher, for sharing your food and for not judging my crazy cat obsession.

Most of all, thank you for being you. For not caring what other people think, for always being confident in what you do, and encouraging the best in others. You are an awesome example of the leader and person I want to be. I am so lucky to have you in my life!

Please know that I would do anything in the world that I could for you, because you have done so much and more for me! Love ya, girlfriend! Thanks for everything!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
