A Letter to the Girl my Brother Will Marry

Whether you are in the picture or not, I want you to know how truly lucky you are. You are going to marry my little brother, and become apart of a family that is eager to meet you and already loves you.

I’ve been praying for you for a while now, praying that my brother finds a girl who is smart, caring, compassionate and loyal. I’ve been praying that you come in a time of his life that he needs you to show him why everything will be okay. I’ve been praying that you show him how to love, and that it is okay for guys to show emotion.

I don’t know what you are going through, or what you have gone through, but I do know once you are with my brother, he will show you that everything is okay. He will hold the door for you. He will sing songs just to see your smile. He will pick up gallons and gallons of ice cream just because he knows you have had a rough couple of days. I’ve been waiting for him to find a girl like you, just like I know your family has been waiting for you to find a boy like him.

He has a sense of humor, so be patient if you do not get it at first, he loves to quote movies and sing at the top of his lungs in the car. He can eat more in one sitting than most can eat in an entire day so be ready to cook, and the grocery store will become your best friend very fast.

It will not be an easy task to fill, you will replace my mom and I on a shallow level of life. You will be the one he comes to when he needs advice at his job, you will be the one that does his laundry, and you will be the one to iron the shirt for that big job interview. We won’t.

It won’t be easy to let my little brother go, and I may not completely like you at first, but understand that's because you are taking away my friend who I did everything with. From playing dump trucks in the yard with my barbies, to playing a quick game of baseball in the yard. The brother I grew up with my whole life, the one who I may find annoying most of the time, will be the man that you can’t wait to spend your life with. It will be an end of an era for us, but just know that no matter if I like you or not, I love you because he loves you.

So, like I said before, you are going to be the happiest girl in the world. I hope you know that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
