A Letter To My Future Sisters

Dear future sisters,

I may not know you right now, and you may not know me. Maybe the thought of a joining a sorority has never even crossed your mind. I don't know where you come from, how you grew up, or what your major is, but soon we will be sisters.

I remember when I first rushed, I had no idea what I was doing. I went out with our sorority, and I remember not even being able to comprehend what sisterhood was. I had no idea what our sorority's open motto stood for, how much our philanthropies would mean to me, or even that these girls would be the start of the best decision I ever made in college. I went through rush like most freshman do at our school—really confused, a little anxious, but mostly excited. I personally was not looking to join a sorority, and I'm actually pretty sure I tried to convince my friend group not to go Greek at all. But eventually I realized that this sisterhood was where I belonged, and sure enough when I got my bid card, I signed it.

Through this sorority, I have learned so much about myself and other people. Our sisters are the most diverse group of girls you will ever meet who share letters. Honestly, sometimes I wonder how we all get along so well. These girls will make college a wild ride, though. You'll find yourself laughing at your phone constantly because the group chat we all have. You'll always have a library buddy and someone to just grab lunch with. You will never not have plans on weekends because our socials plan the best mixers. But most importantly, you'll meet your best friends that'll be there for you during all of the hardships college throws your way.

You will get a Big who you are absolutely obsessed with, and eventually a Little who you brag about like she is your child. You will have pledge sisters who will be your best friends, and you'll always feel like you have a home away from home. The sorority house will hold so many memories for you, and you'll always know you had a good night when you wake up on a random sister's couch.

I hope you wear these letters with pride. I hope that you expand upon all that our alumni has worked for us to have. I hope you want to hold positions and be the best sisters that you can be. I really hope that you get what I did out of these short years as an active. I hope that this sisterhood is always one that builds you up and helps you stay strong . Most of all, I hope you make sure this sorority stays so amazing so our legacy never dies, and we have a place to come back to for alumni weekend. I'll hopefully have a job then and can be that cool alumni that buys you drinks.

It might not seem like much to you now, but the truth is you will be my best friends' future Littles—you will hold the entire future of this chapter in your hands. You will have pledge sisters, family trees, and countless sisters that will mean different things to you. I hope you find your home away from home with us. I know I did.

Sincerely,

An older sister

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Bucket List To Live In The Now

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
