Dear Future Husband

Dear Future Husband,

It is crazy to me to think that the man I dreamed about as a little girl is out there. Even though, now, it may seem like you are never going to come.

Us women, we do this stupid thing where we give our lives timelines. We tell ourselves we will be married by a certain age and have kids a few years later. We tell ourselves we will have the house and car of our dreams by the time we are married with kids.

My timeline is way off. I was sitting here earlier feeling super sorry for myself. The guy who was supposed to be super into me just dropped off the face of the earth, my ex-boyfriend who tore my heart apart and stomped on it is as happy as can be with someone else, everyone around me is so in love, and I am on my seventh season of Grey’s Anatomy curled up with my cat.

But, then I refused to feel sorry for myself. I have to trust that I am supposed to be on my couch right now binge watching Netflix alone. I have to trust that this is a part of the plan. I have to know my worth.

I know how much I have to offer to you. I know when the time comes I will be a great girlfriend then wife and mother. I have to constantly remind myself that my current situation is not because of me -- it is because of the plan. All of this time I’m becoming a better person and getting more and more ready for you. I have to trust that you will walk into my life when you are supposed to.

I hope that I have good instincts and judgment. I hope that I always am aware of what I deserve and don’t deserve so that I will not waste my time with anyone less than perfect. Unfortunately, that is bound to happen no matter how careful I am. Let’s just call it practice runs. The other guys who I have dated and who have gotten my affection and emotions were me practicing so I could make it to you.

So, following up with that, I hope that you will be able to love me and help patch me up from the way the guys before you have hurt me. I trust that you will.

Until then, I will be here. I will be working on becoming the best version of me that I can be. I will be waiting. Waiting to love you and waiting for you to love me. It is going to be great and I will be able to look back on the nights I stay in feeling sorry for myself, and smile.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
