A Letter To My Furry Friends

To all of my furry friends,

To say you are lucky that I gave you a home would be an understatement, because I am lucky that you have shown me unconditional love for as long as we have known each other.

It's difficult to explain how much you mean to me or how grateful I am that you are in my life. Besides that fact that you can't understand me, how do you tell your best friends that they mean the world to you?

From the moment I brought all of you home - one by one, that is - I knew we would be best pals. It was love at first sight and I knew you would be in my life for a very long time. However, I had no idea that you would impact my life in such a profound way.

Human friends come and go, but you have always been there for me. You are always the first to greet me at the door, rubbing your fur up against me and getting hair all over me as soon as I walk through the front door. You are the first to jump up on your back legs to say hello.

Thank you for cheering me up on a bad day.

Thank you for craving my attention.

Thank you for being my cuddle buddy when I am sick, and a listening ear when I need to vent. I've never been good at expressing my emotions, but having you sit next to me is comforting enough.

A furry friend's love is different from anyone you'll ever meet. Dogs and cats need basic necessities like food and water, but they don't ask for anything in return (I know, animals can't talk, but you get the point).

I don't deserve the unconditional love you give me every day, but you give it to me anyway and for that, I am so grateful.

Having you in my life is like having guaranteed best friends. You're always ready to hang out, you're always willing to go on a walk, and I feel so much joy every time I hear you meow or watch you chew on your dog bone.

You remind me to appreciate the little things in life because that is what you do every day.

People have always judged me for owning so many animals, but there's no greater feeling than going home and seeing a house full of furry friends. With pets, you're never alone because your trusty companions are always nearby.

Thank you for loving me unconditionally and thank you for being my furry friends.

I love you so much and promise to take care of you, always.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
