An Open Letter To My Older Sister

You're my best friend, even if I'm mad at you.

Big Sis,

I don't say it very often, but I appreciate you. I know I can be annoying sometimes, but that doesn't stop you from loving me. When I was younger and people told us that we would be best friends one day, I didn't believe them, but here we are.

I know we argue, but I also know there is no one that cares about me as much as you do. We've been through a lot together and I'm thankful just to have you around, because it would have been so much harder if I was an only child.

Thank you for making mistakes and showing me what not to do. Thank you for supporting me in everything I do, even if you don't think it's the best option for me. Thank you for telling me that high school kids are stupid when I came home after a bad day. Thank you for letting me wear your clothes all the time. Thank you for answering my phone calls even when you're busy. Thank you for letting me do everything you did- including guard and working at the same place as you. Thank you for buying me food. Thank you for driving me everywhere before I could drive and even occasionally now. Thank you for doing my makeup for prom and many other occasions. Thank you for just being you.

Some of my greatest memories involve you and I will cherish those forever. Remember when we went to Kansas City for a weekend? What about our dinner and a movie dates?

I love you so much and after looking back on these past 19 years, I don't know how I would have done it without you. You mean the world to me and I hope you know that.

You're my best friend and you will never understand how much that means to me.

Your Little Sister,

Bean

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
