A Letter To My Friends I Forgot To Keep In Touch With This Summer

Losing touch with close friends is bound to happen to everyone. Sometimes it's because of busy schedules or unnecessary drama, but more often than not it’s just because the course of people’s lives go in different directions. As I was scrolling through pictures from my first year away at school I realized that I had not kept in touch with quite a few friends; friends that I wish I had kept in touch with. So to the friends that I haven’t kept up with as much as I should have this past summer, I’m sorry. However, I'm so grateful for your friendship and I promise that as soon as school starts up again I won’t be so distant.

Hey guys,

It's Liv! Ugh, gosh I miss you so much! I can’t wait to be back at school hanging out with you guys! I was just looking through pictures from this past year, (remember the night we tried to fit 30 marshmallows in my mouth and we laughed so hard we started crying?), and I realized I have not been a very good friend due to my lack of communication skills. I hope you have not held my lack of reaching out against me, I swear it wasn't intentional. In fact, if it makes you feel better I've been pretty distant with all of my friends this summer! (No? That didn't make you feel better? Well, it was worth a try I guess.)

Anyway, please forgive me for not keeping up with you and your summer antics. You deserve more than my unpredictable snap chats and vague texts. It's just that I’ve been so busy with work, and summer classes, and vacations that I’ve forgotten to reach out and see how you are. Hopefully, you understand that I didn't mean to be distant or rude. (I guess I just really suck at long distance relationships.) Although I have to say, when I did send an occasional snap you always replied with a quirky comment or smiley selfie, and I'm so thankful for that. I promise once school starts up again things will be totally back to normal. (Well as normal as college can be right?)

Eventually, when we do get back to school I'm going to make sure we sit down and chat. I'll give you my undivided attention. We can gossip about the new couples on campus, how much your summer job sucked, and that awesome vacation you took in June. We can restart that snap streak we never really committed to last April up again. (But this time lets actually try to get to at least 10 days okay?)

Honestly, I don't know what I did to deserve friends that can pick up right where we left off last, but all I can say is I'm glad you're one of them. I can't wait to see you, and get back to our school year shenanigans!! Until then, enjoy the last few weeks of your summer.

Love,

A grateful, but sometimes distant friend

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
