An Open Letter To My Mom, The One Who Believed In Me

You are the strongest woman I have ever known.

An Open Letter To My Mom, The One Who Believed In Me
Kia Isherwood

Dear Mom,

There are no words to describe how you have impacted my life. You gave birth to me, and you raised me all my 18 years into who I am today.

I just want you to know that I haven’t taken any of that for granted. I always think about what you have given up for me, and it is unbelievable how thankful I am for everything. Things were not easy for you to take care of three children, but you made it work. You went through a lot of downsides, but you always made it through. That has shown me that you are strong.

I have always admired how strong you are. It gives me the motivation to keep on going when times get tough. You never gave up when it got hard, and that makes me believe that nothing can’t be worked through.

You were there for my performances from elementary to high school. You were there through all my successes, all my failures, and when I didn’t know what to do. When I failed, you picked me back up. You always believed in me, and that means so much to me. You always thought of me as a superstar in your life.

Through my successes, you were there to cheer me on and tell me that you knew I could do it. Your support has been the one thing that has gotten me to where I am right now. I don’t know where I’d be if you didn’t believe in me.

I am forever thankful for everything you had to offer. Like, all the pointless times I needed money to hang out with friends. If I wanted the most updated technology, you made sure I got it. Even though we didn’t have money to really spend or use childishly, you still gave me something.

Every Christmas, you made sure I got a gift. No matter what it was, I am unbelievably thankful. I just want you to know that you gave me the world, and I won’t take it for granted. I’m doing something with my life, because I know that’s all you ever wanted.

You want me to succeed, and I promise mom, I will not let you down.

I will make you proud because you did a great job as a mother. I just want to show you that your hard work wasn’t for nothing. You made me into a strong woman and I thank you every day for that. I love you with all my heart, Mom. You’re the best.

Sincerely, your daughter

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
